Special Populations
Immunosuppressed
- Inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) is recommended in
immunosuppressed patients.
- Live, attenuated vaccine (LAIV)
- contradindicated in immunosuppressed.
- should be avoided in contacts of patients who are severely
immunocompromised persons (e.g., patients with hematopoietic stem cell
transplants) who require a protective environment
- Chemoprophylaxis with antiviral
drugs
- consider use during the influenza season for persons at high risk
with low likelihood of good antibody response to vaccine (including
patients with HIV, particularly those with advanced HIV disease).
