Immunosuppressed

  • Inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) is recommended in immunosuppressed patients.
  • Live, attenuated vaccine (LAIV)
    • contradindicated in immunosuppressed.
    • should be avoided in contacts of patients who are severely immunocompromised persons (e.g., patients with hematopoietic stem cell transplants) who require a protective environment
  • Chemoprophylaxis with antiviral drugs
    • consider use during the influenza season for persons at high risk with low likelihood of good antibody response to vaccine (including patients with HIV, particularly those with advanced HIV disease).
