How to Convert Microsoft Word documents into Useful, Hyperlinked Medical References
A Step-By-Step Guide
Start with a document in either Microsoft Word 97 or 2000.
In this example we'll be working with a file called The Elbow which contains peripheral brain style notes about elbow conditions.
Click the thumbnail images for screenshots illustrating the described process.
Step One: Format with Headings
Decide which topics within the document you'll want to use as targets for hyperlinks
typically these are subject headings and sub-headings
Highlight the text for one of these hyperlink targets.
Change the heading by clicking on the drop-down list on the Word toolbar and assigning a heading.
Assign the headings hierarchically.
For example, in this document we'll assign :
Non-traumatic elbow pain to Heading 2
Entrapment Neuropathies to Heading 3
Cubital Tunnel Syndrome to Heading 4
Lateral Epicondylitis to Heading 3
Each of these headings will be able to be used as the target of a hyperlink in the next step.
